BasketBall Trip to America
Last month was a hugely successful one for the school’s basketball teams.
18 pupils travelled to New York and Orlando for ten days where they played 5 games and caught two NBA games. In Orlando, Mr McAufield and Ms Curran arranged for the boys to greet the home team as they entered the court prior to their game versus New Orleans.
As well as playing against teams in the Junior Magic set up, the teams also travelled to the Cocoa Beach area where they were hosted by Officer Frank Gay who co-ordinates the Police Athletic League and by Coach Dave Gartrelle.
For the tour Medicare Pharmaceutical Company provided playing kits and polo shirts for the travelling party.
Ben Horner (centre of picture) has also been selected for the Irish U18 team to travel to the USA this summer. He is the only player from Ulster to make the 16-man team.
Ben is of course no stranger to international basketball as he played for Ireland in the U16 European championships in Bosnia in 2008 and also travelled last summer to the USA with the U18 Irish team.
