Duke of Edinburgh Silver Award

Qualifying expedition September 2008
Congratulations to the six teams who successfully completed their Silver Award qualifying expedition in September.  The qualifying expedition was the culmination of eight months of training and preparation by the pupils.
The expedition started in cool, rainy conditions at Kilbroney Park in Rostrevor and in heavy showers and deteriorating conditions the teams made their way to their first campsite at Sandy lane near Attical.  The second day saw improved weather and in better spirits the teams made their way via Banns road and Ben Crom reservoir to the campsite at Annalong wood.  The final day commenced in misty cool misty conditions and warmed up as the day progressed and the teams approached their finish point at Donard car park in Newcastle.  Tired but elated, the successful teams finished on target and celebrated the completion of the expedition with crisps, coke and emergency rations.
