Aquinas pupils rocketed with excitement after watching the launch of the Atlantis Space Shuttle in Florida last week.
The group of A-level Science students were delighted to be present at lift off, as it had previously been delayed due to bad weather conditions.
Physics teacher Nicola Byrne described the event as a wonderful experience and it was a stroke of luck the students were able to see it for themselves.
"It's a once in a life time experience to see a space shuttle launch. The trip took a lot of organising but it was really beneficial to the students."
During the six-day trip not only did the pupils get a taste for space travel at the Kennedy Space Centre but they also had a chance to explore the scientific side to the happiest place on earth, Disneyworld.
As part of the park's World of Wonder lecture, the students were able to adapt all their classroom theory by taking a ride on the rollercoasters to learn how they work, all in the name of science of course.
"There was a really good balance between learning and fun. The guided tour through the park was called 'Imagineering', a mix between imagination and engineering. It really was unbelievable!" said Nicola.
