Animation Project 2010

Posted on June 29th, 2010

The 2010 Animation Prize Day for Year 10 took place on the 25 June and represented the culmination of a full year’s collaborative work between Art, English, Music, Geography and ICT.  This year the theme of the films was, “Belfast: a City for Everyone” focussing on issues of ethnic diversity.  The winning entries were judged by the Head of Education at Northern Ireland Screen, Mr Bernard McCluskey (see www.northernirelandscreen.com.uk) and artist and designer Mrs Eileen Creen.

The film that won overall was ‘Our Belfast’ which contrasted the real Belfast with the media headlines normally used to portray the city.  The winning team members were Carla Dunlop, Rose Lynch, Madeleine Magee, Caolan McBay Doherty and Laura McCartney.
Other winning films included: ‘Untitled’ for Best Story, ‘Big Nose’ for Best Soundtrack and ‘Owls and Sparrows’ for Best Design.  ‘Under the Rainbow’ also received special commendation as a powerful piece of work.
Well done to all the Year 10s who really worked hard to produce these films, not only during the week of filming but also in their English, Art and Music classes.

Year 10 Animation Project

Posted on January 21st, 2007

In March last year, the school applied for inclusion on a DV Pilot run by C2k.  We were successful and to facilitate us in our work, we received an eMac Computer, DV Camera and keyboardThe project, called Environment Matters was launched in Year 9 Geography classes in May where we discussed local and global environmental issues such as climate change, rainforest deforestation, pollution, recycling and litter.  At the same time, the ICT Department taught the pupils the skills of video editing.  Later, around June time, the Year 9s were divided into groups (based on the Art classes) of four or five.  This allowed the English Department to begin creative writing tasks where each group had to produce a story based around an environmental theme.

These tasks were finished by September and now the Art and Design Department was able to bring the stories to life by constructing sets and plasticine models which was facilitated by the school in having two ‘collapsed timetable’ days.
