Aquinas Diocesan Grammar School win first ever Ulster Colleges’ title!

Ulster finals including three Bro Nolan senior finals, one Fr Faul (year 12) final, one Bro Ennis (year 10) and one Mallon Cup (year 9) final.  Aquinas had been very unlucky in many of the finals losing by one or two points, but not this time when they beat Edmund Rice College 6-4 to 5-3 in a goal fest of a final at the Ulster Colleges Year 8 Blitz:
The team played magnificently in the first half with a breeze when they shot into a 4-1 to 1-0 lead at half time.
Edmund Rice however fought back gallantly scoring a penalty and another well taken goal early in the second half. This provided a nail biting last five minutes.  During this time Edmund Rice scored another goal and 3 points.  However Aquinas playing against the wind also responded with 2 excellent goals and 3 well taken points.
This was Aquinas’s seventh Ulster Colleges Final in 15 years of competing.  They have been pipped at the post in four of those finals, so this was a welcome win.  Mr Evans and Mr Quinn were very proud of how the pupils conducted themselves throughout the competition.
