CCEA AS and A2 Government and Politics at Aquinas is taught by Mr Julian McGrath. Year thirteen study the government and politics of Northern Ireland, the United Kingdom and Political Behaviour. In your fourteen the students learn about politics in the United States, Political Power and complete a comparative study of the UK & USA. Indeed one of the highlights of this academic year was the tour to the United States to visit the key institutions studied in the course.

Political students at Aquinas consistently achieve high grades in their AS and A2.
The AS & A2 level performances are consistently above the average across Northern Ireland grammar schools doing CCEA Govt & Politics as the results from June 2005 illustrate –

62.5% scored grade A in A2 Politics in Aquinas …whilst the NI average for grammar schools is 21%

75% at Aquinas achieved grades A-B compared to NI Grammar School average of 66%

100% of Aquinas students scored A-C passes in Politics comparing with a NI grammar school average of 93%

AS Level

At AS-level 57% of Aquinas Grammar students got grade A (12 out 21 students). The NI Grammar average is 28%

90.4% of Aquinas students scored A or B whilst the NI grammar school average is 66.5% scoring A-B.

100% of Aquinas students at AS scored A-C whilst the NI average for grammar schools is 89.3%
