The air in Aquinas Diocesan Grammar School crackled with pride and excitement on Tuesday, April 29th, 2025, as the school community gathered for a truly special occasion. The presence of esteemed guests, including Uachtarán Cumann Lúthchleas Gael Jarlath Burns and his wife Suzanne, our Principal Dr Dowling and former Principal Mr Kelly, and county representatives from both Down and Antrim, underscored the significance of the event: a celebration of our pupils' remarkable achievements and unwavering dedication to Gaelic Games.
The afternoon unfolded as a vibrant tribute to excellence. We applauded the eloquence and passion of our Irish Language speakers, whose linguistic talents soared. The roar of appreciation then turned to the triumphant young players who brought home the coveted O’Hara Cup, their victory a testament to skill and teamwork. Not to be outdone, the remarkable young women who captured the Rosina McManus Shield were also celebrated, their determination and prowess shining brightly.
Adding a poignant touch to the event, a new tradition was born. Our graduating senior girls and boys Gaelic Games players were honoured with the presentation of their jerseys – the very fabric that bore witness to their commitment and distinction on the field over the past seven years. This symbolic gesture beautifully encapsulated their journey and lasting contribution to the school's sporting legacy. The pride radiating from students, families, and staff alike made it a truly memorable night, solidifying the deep-rooted passion for Gaelic Games within the Aquinas community.
